This showcase highlights creations produced during my graduate studies in educational technology at Michigan State University. In it you will find projects created during my study abroad experiences in Ireland, which gave me the opportunity to work with an amazing group of fellow educators, as well as those produced for online courses that are rooted in my day-to-day teaching practice.

My learning artifacts are divided into two categories: Show and Tell. The Show section features videos and presentations in which I share how the MSU Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program coursework has impacted me. The Tell section presents a selection of blog posts created during my studies, in which I grapple with new concepts and integrate them into my teaching practice.

This Showcase page was created for my Capstone course. It, and the videos and blog posts featured below, provide snapshots of my learning from every course completed for my MAET degree. This collection of videos represents my culminating work for the two required MAET courses--theory and research, as well as the two elective courses I found most impactful--leadership and design.

My Theories of Learning:
Socio-cultural and Situative Learning

In my second summer in Ireland with the intensive MAET Overseas Summer 2025: Educational Technology Abroad program, we studied theories of learning for the first week. The final project was a multi-modal presentation of our own theories of learning based on what we discovered during our exploration of a wide range of theoretical approaches.

This video provides evidence of my understanding of socio-cultural and situative learning theories as they apply in the context of teaching culinary arts to high school students. The presentation also demonstrates my ability to apply theoretical concepts to my classroom organization and lesson structures.

My Action Research Plan:
Asset-based Pedagogy in Culinary Arts

In the second week of the MAET Overseas Summer 2025 program, we studied educational research, particularly action research. Our final project was a video presenting our action research plan to potential stakeholders.

This video provides evidence of my understanding of the parameters and considerations of an action research. My plan includes qualitative data collection, formulation of lesson plans based on data analysis, the timeframe for the research project, and risk assessment, including considerations of participant consent, privacy, and confidentiality.

My Education Leadership Philosophy:
Equity and Excellence

The technology and leadership course introduced students to the difficult communication, training, and visioning challenges that face technology education leaders. The final creation for the course was a video appropriate for stakeholder viewing that shares our personal leadership philosophy.

This video presents an end-of-course articulation of my philosophy in the context of my position as a high school culinary arts teacher. It shares my motivation to be an excellent teacher leader, as well as evidence of the ways I have incorporated the tenets of leadership excellence into my teaching practice. These include planning, power sharing, relationship building, open communication, and reflection.

My Problem of Practice:
Inventory Management for Culinary Arts

The learning technology through design course introduced the Stanford design thinking process as a tool in creating learning designs that center learners and solve teaching and learning problems effectively. The course required each student to identify a problem of practice to which they could apply the design process.

This video introduces my problem of practice--inventory management for culinary arts. The presentation walks viewers through my findings from the prototyping stage of the design process. It provides evidence of ability to understanding and apply the design process in a creative and effective way, while considering the needs of learners.

This collection of blog posts includes a reflections on course topics from courses including assessment, online teaching and learning, and my integrated 2024 Mindsets for Innovation courses in Galway, Ireland.

Manageable Assessments:
The Missing Ingredient for Delicious Data

In my electronic assessment course, we grappled with what it means to develop assessments that are intentional, aligned, meaningful, and manageable. In one of the last blog posts for the course, I reflect on my integration of these assessment qualities into my own lesson planning and assessment designs.

This blog post demonstrates the growth in my understanding of quality assessments as compared to my initial assessment philosophy blog post. The featured assessment demonstrates my mastery of the four course goals. In particular, it reveals significant growth in creating assessments that are fair, reliable, objective, and valid, while also being manageable.

My Learning Journey to a Manifesto of Online Teaching and Learning

The learning objectives of my online teaching and learning course were to be able to develop and critique online learning environments, and teach effectively in them. The course challenged us to meet the needs of every student through intentional, thoughtful, and creative instructional design.

This final blog post traces my learning journey and demonstrates my integration of the concepts presented in the course into a strong statement of my guiding principles as an educator in both online and in-person teaching and learning environments. My synthesis demonstrates my commitment to humanizing instruction and providing equitable learning environments to all students.

Interrogating Teaching Practice
Why, What if, and How to "do better"

In my first summer in Galway, Ireland as part of the in-person, month-long Overseas 2024: Mindsets for Innovation cohort, our studies integrated three educational technology courses. The course introduced theories of learning, educational psychology, and the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework.

In this blog post I explain how my new understandings of educational psychology and the TPACK framework can be applied to improve my teaching and address problems of practice in my own learning environment.

Maker Learning Hits the Spot
Pizza without a recipe

Another major focus of the Overseas 2024: Mindsets for Innovation course was engaging with constructivist theory and constructionist methods to create and present a maker learning project.

This blog post discusses my maker project and presents the project artifacts that demonstrate my ability to employ the theoretical and methodological principles of maker learning. It also highlights my engagement with course ideas to improve my teaching practice, particularly in the area of learning transfer.
